Scriptures

The 4 official scriptures of the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are linked below with descriptions. The link is to a toolbox that has various versions of the scriptures:

The Inspired Version of the Bible

This version of the Bible was made available by Joseph Smith, Jr. following the commandment of God. It is evident, from the manuscripts and the testimony of those who were conversant with the facts, that the new translation was done by direct revelation from God. It was begun in June 1830, and was finished July 2, 1833.

The Book of Mormon (1908 Edition)

Mormon, the chief editor of The Book of Mormon, abridged a thousand years of history, then turned it over to his son Moroni in AD 385 to finish. Moroni hid up the record sometime after AD 420. Moroni, as a heavenly personage, fave it to Joseph Smith, Jr. in 1827. Joseph translated it by the “gift and power” of God. It was first published in March 1830.

Doctrine and Covenants

The Doctrine and Covenants was originally published at Kirtland, Ohio, by the prophet, Joseph Smith, Jr., and other Church leaders. The book was approved and adopted as the “doctrine and covenants of their faith” on August 17, 1835, by a General Assembly of the Church (see Section 108A:d-f, 12). The 1835 Edition contained both the Lectures on Faith (the doctrine part of the book) as well as the revelation which the Lord had given to the Church through the prophet, Joseph Smith (the covenants portion) – from which came the name Doctrine and Covenants.
